Just a few days ago former Australia spinner Brad Hogg was in India for the Road Safety World Series representing team Australia Legends led by former p??acer Brett Lee. But due to Coronavirus pandemic, the series got postponed, and now Hogg has returned to his home.

On Friday, Hogg uploaded a video on his YouTube channel where ??he picked three best batsmen?? in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who excelled in the powerplay overs.

For those who aren’t aware, a power play is mandatory fielding restrictions which are imposed on every fielding side for the first six overs of the 20 over innings. It means that only two fielders can stay outside the inner circle, which makes the batting comparatively easy.

Hogg started the proceedings by?? choosing his countryman David Warner. The destructive opener had been phenomenal in the lucrative league. In 126 games, Warner has accumulated 470??6 runs which is the highest by any overseas player in IPL.

Warner has scored 1959 ru??ns in powerplay overs with an average of 45.6 and a strike-rate of 151.2. Hogg opined that since Warner is good in rotating the strike and runs quickly between the wickets it helps him to maintain pressure on the bowlers.

“Thing I like about David Warner he is powerful on the leg side but equally good on the leg side as well. He’s little weak on the top of the off and middle when the ball is swinging in, but he tackles it by taking the singles and converting them in the doubles. He is a busy batsman,” spoke Hogg.

At number two, Hogg picked arguably the best Indian player in the shortest format of the game, Suresh Raina. The southpaw has clubbed 5368?? runs which is the second-highest in the history of IPL. He has 38 fifties to his name �highest amongst Indian players and second-best overall.

In powerplays, Ra??ina has scored 1503 runs with an average of 36.7 and an awesome strike-rate of 136.8. Hogg said that Raina comes at crucial situations and helps his team to post big totals.

“The thing I like about Raina is that he sums up the opposition bowlers, he targets certain bowlers and those who are strong against him, he rotates strikes, so he is very clever in that regard. I like him at number two; he’s one of my favourites,” Hogg said about Raina.

In a bit of surprise, Hogg went with England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler at number three spot. As per the stats shown in Hogg’s video, Buttler has scored 536 runs in powerplay overs with an average of 48.7, but he has a fantastic 162.9 strike rate.

“He stands tall and uses the pace. He tries to pierce the field rather than going over the top under pressure in powerplay phase. He backs his timing and if he’s on the song and bowler is a bit of defensive, he’s got the ramp shots. So I just love him for his versatility,” said Hogg.

Hogg also came up wit??h honourable mentions, in which he picked Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, and Chris Gayle.

For Dhawan and Gambhir, Hogg said that they are a bit slow as compared to the ones he picked. If they had a good strike-rate, then they would’ve been at the top.

For Gayle, the former chinaman o?pined that he takes a bit more time in the powerplay to get into the rhythm which? puts pressure on his batting partners.

Amidst?? the reports of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises making changes in their respective supporting staff, a report in The Mumbai Mirror has suggested that Brad Hodge, head coach?? of Preity Zinta co-owned Kings XI Punjab, has been asked to leave his position.

The news comes as a big surprise as the former Australian batsman was handed a contract for a period of three years but after j?ust one year in service, he has been asked to leave.

Under the tutelage of Hodge, KXIP made a phenomenal start to the IPL 2018 season by winning five of their first seven games before a break of one week. The?? break turned out to be a nightmare for KXIP franchise as they just managed one win in the next seven games, which saw them crashing out of the tournament.

Hodge had earlier coached the Gujarat Lions in IPL (??20??16 and 2017) ahead of KXIP. He performed the role of head coach for a period of two years that the franchise participated in the league.

However, there is no news over Virender Sehwag, who has been associated with the team since 2014. He earlier played for the franchise before joining the backroom staff as M?entor and Director of cr??icket operations of the team.

During I??PL 2018, a report in The Mumbai Mirror had suggested that there was a fallout between Sehwag and Preity Zinta.

“Against Rajasthan Royals, skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was sent in at number three, ahead of more accomplished batsmen such as Karun Nair and Manoj Tiwari. The move backfired as Ashwin fell for a duck, and Preity launched into Sehwag for the decision. However, when Preity continued to blame him, saying ‘unnecessary’ tinkering with the playing XI had led to a spate of defeats, Sehwag tried to reason with her,” a source was quoted as saying by the paper.

on Sunday, the former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad was appointed as the bowling coach of KXIP. The franchise has released a statement in which they welcomed the Indian veteran on board. “Venkatesh Prasad, former right-arm medium-fast bowler and ex-chairman of the junior national selection committee (BCCI) comes on board as the team’s bowling coach,” the statement read.

Also, Australia’s Brad Hodge has been signed as the head coach of the team for the next three seasons. “The team we’ve managed to get together is absolutely phenomenal. Australia’s Brad Hodge has been appoint??ed as the coach of the Kings XI Punjab team ahead of 2018 IPL, the team management confirmed?????????????????????????? to Pune Mirror.

In spite of the franchise giving him the role of head coach, it has been revealed that he will report to Virender Sehwag, who ??is the brand ambassador, mentor ?and the Director of Cricketing operations of the Kings XI Punjab.

The reports further added that Sehwag will be heading all the cricketing aff??airs of the franchise. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Brad Hodge will be associated with the IPL. He was a prominent player in the Rajasthan Royals c?amp earlier.

In the last two editions of the tournament, Hodge served as the head coach of the Gujarat Lions franchise. Under his supervision, the?? Lions had made it to the pl??ayoffs in the 2016 edition of the tournament.

While Brad Hodge is a new addition to the Kings XI Punjab camp, there have been a few deductions too. R. Sridhar, who served as the fielding coach of KXIP till now, will not be part of the team anymore due to conflict of interest as he serves the Indian Cricket Team. The same is applicable for physio Patrick Farhart as well.
