Pakistan delivered a commanding performance to secure a 127-run win over the West Indies in the opening Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday (January 19). Despite initial batting hiccups, the hosts displayed resilience with the bat and brilliance with the ball to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The match witnessed a spectacular catch by Salman Ali Agha and a dominant display of spin bowling that dismantled the W??est Indies batting lineup.

Salman Ali Agha’s stunning catch steals the show

One of the standout moments of the match was Salman’s breathtaking catch at slip on Day 3. The incident occurred in the 35th over of the West Indies?innings when Abrar Ahmed bowled a length ball outside off that took an awkward bounce from the surface. Kevin Sinclair, u?nable to handle the rearing delivery, edged it towards the slip cordon. Salman, stationed at slip, reacted instantly, diving forward to grab the ball at shoulder height. His acrobatic effort not only sent Sinclair packing but also set the tone for Pakistan’s dominance in the field.

Pakistan spinners wreak havoc

Pakistan’s spin bowlers were the architects of their victory, exploiting the conditions to perfection. Sajid Khan emerged as the chief destroyer, taking nine wickets across both innings. His fifer on Day 3 was instrumental in wrapping up the West Indies?second innings for just 123 runs. Abrar also played a pivotal role, claiming four wickets in the second innings, including key dismissals like Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican.

The West Indies batting lineup crumbled under the pressure, failing to cross 150 in either innings. They were bowled out for 137 in the first innings and 123 in the second, leaving them well short of Pakistan’s target. Pakistan’s spinners exploited the variable bounce and?? turn ??on offer, leaving the visiting batters searching for answers.

Second Test awaits

The teams will reconvene at the Multan Cricket Stadium for the second and final Test, starting on January 25. With this win, Pakistan h?ave taken a firm grip on the series and will be eager to seal a 2-0 victory. Meanwhile, the West Indies will need to regroup quickly to level the series and avoid a clean sweep.

Pakistan kicked off their ODI series against South Africa with a t?hrilling 3-wicket victory in the opening game at ??Boland Park in Paarl. The contest went down to the wire where the visitors held their nerve and managed to claim a nail-biting win.

Agha Salman sizzles with the ball

South Africa got off to a steady start as openers Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton contributed 33 and 36 runs, respectively. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly Agha Salman and Abrar Ahmed, kept the middle order under control. Heinrich Klaasen?? anchored the innings with a superb 86 off 97 b?alls, including seven boundaries and two sixes, giving the hosts a fighting total. Ahmed’s tidy spell of 2/32 and Salman’s remarkable 4/32 were instrumental in restricting South Africa to 239.

Saim Ayub hits a brilliant ton to take Pakistan over the finish line

In response, Pakistan had a shaky start, losing Abdullah Shafique for a duck in the opening over. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan fell cheaply, leaving Pakistan struggling at 4/3. Saim Ayub steadied the innings with a masterclass 109 off 119 deliveries, striking 10 fours and 3 sixes. His part??nership with Salman, who scored a well-crafted 82 off 90 balls, proved to be the backbone of the chase.

Despite a late flurry of wickets, Saim’s heroics and Salman’s composed innings ensured Pakistan crossed the line with three balls to spare. Ottniel Baartman and Kagiso Rabada were the? pick of the bowlers for South Africa, claiming two wickets each.

Salman not only impressed wit??h the ball but also delivered a match-defining knock with the bat. His all-round brilliance earned him the Player of the Match award, highlighting his critical role in Pakistan’s victory.

The second day of the first Test between Pakistan and England saw a controversial moment that left fans and players alike debating the umpire’s decision. England’s Chris Woakes seemed to have caught Pakistan’s Agha Salman, but the batter was given ‘not out?after a detailed r?eview. The decision sparked discussions, with man??y wondering what led to the final call.

Chris Woakes’ catch and the moment of doubt

Salman was batting on 15 when England’s Jack Leach bowled a flighted delivery around the off-stump, prompting Salman to come down the track for a lofted shot. However, the Pakistani batter mistimed th??e shot, sending the ball high toward long-off instead of deep into the stands.

Chris Woakes settled under the ball and appeared to take the catch, but as he was backtracking toward the boundary rope, his momentum threatened to carry him beyond the field of play. In an attempt to avoid stepping over the boundary, Woakes threw the ball in the air and hopped back in, completing the catch on a second attempt. However, upon review, it was determined that Woakes’ right foot was still grounded when he first made contact with the ball, meaning he had not yet completed the catch. The decision came down to mere milliseconds, but ultimately, the “benefit of the doubt” was awarded to Salman, as commentator Nasser Hussain noted on air. Umpire Chris Gaffaney ruled in favour of the batter, allowing Salman t?o continue his innings.

Following the controversial moment, ??Salman capitalized on the reprieve and went on to score an impressive century. His unbeaten 104 was instrumental in Pakistan’s dominant batting performance. Salman’s composure and resilience were evident as he anchored the lower order, pushing Pakistan towards a commanding total.

Pakistan’s batting masterclass

Their contributions laid the foundation for Pakistan’s imposing total.

England’s bowlers toiled hard on the field, with each of them managing to take a wicket, but?? the ??standout performer was Leach.

Leach, despite the challenging conditions, bowled with discipline and picked up three crucial wickets. However, his eff??orts couldn’t pr?event Pakistan from dominating the innings, as the hosts piled up a formidable score.

The Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan reached an exhilarating crescendo on Day 3 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The day was marked by fierce competition, with both teams displaying?? determinat?ion to gain control.

Among the many highlights, Agha Salman‘s brilliant catch to dismiss Mitchell Marsh became a defining moment in the game. The catch not only showcased Salman’s fielding prowess but also marked a crucial turning point in a day filled with intense cricketing action.

Pakistan’s morning surge

The day began with Pakistan resuming their innings at 194/6, aiming to build on their overnight total. However, the Australian bowlers, led by Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, had other plans. Aamer Jamal‘s lower-order contribution proved crucial, adding valuable runs to Pakistan’s total. Despite the resistance, Cummins secured a brilliant fifer, supported by Lyon’s four-wicket haul, as Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 264.

Australia’s turbulent start and Mitchell Marsh’s resilience

In response to Pakistan’s score, Australia found themselves in a precarious position early on, losing wickets to the fiery pace of Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza. After conceding 234 runs while picking only a couple of wickets, the Pakistan bowlers came back in style and reduced New Zealand to 309/6 at the end of the opening day’s play in the ongoing second Test at Karachi’s National Stadium. Agha Salman, in part??icular, was the wrecker-in-chief, bagging a three-wicket haul for 55 r??uns in 20 overs.

Salman dismissed centurion Devon Conway and broke the 100-run partnership between the left-handed opener and skipper Kane Williamson. Salman picked up two more wickets in the form of Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell. H?is dismissal of Mitchell, however, attracted maximum eyeballs.

Salman bowled a peach of a delivery to clean up Mitchell in the 69th over of New Zealand’s first innings. The spinner went for a classical off-spin which pitched right on the money to draw the right-hand batter forward. As Mitchell tried to defend the ball, the red cherry pierced through the tiny gap between the bat and the pad, and hit the stumps.

Apart from Salman, Naseem Shah also impressed one and all with his disciplined bowling throughout the opening day. He drew the first blood in the form of Tom Latham before joining hands with Salman to pick two mo??re scalps, triggering a batting co??llapse of the Black Caps. Naseem bagged three scalps for 46 runs in 18.4 overs.

Earlier, after electing to bat first, the visitors started strongly as Conway stitched together crucial stands of 134 and 100 with Latham and Williamson. It was Conway’s fourth Test century, and he also surpassed the 1000-run benchmark.

“It’s been a good ride so far. I’ve only played a handful of Test games, so it’s nice to get the opportunity to play and contribute to the team. It was nice batting out there with Tommy Latham and Kane, we managed to form some good partnerships,” Conway told the reporters.
