The CAA Centre witnessed an enthralling encounter between the Vancouver Knights and the Toronto Nationals?? in Match 2 of the Global T20 Canada 2023 tournament. After winning the toss, the Knights elected to bowl first, se?tting the stage for an exciting clash.

The Nationals had a shaky start, with opener Hamza Tariq being dismissed for just 7 runs. However, it was Colin Munro‘s spectacular batting display that stole the show. Munro unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes, amassing an impressive 78 runs off just 45 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes. He held the innings together and provided a solid foundation for his team. Yuvraj Singh recently broke hearts by bidding farewell to international cricket. He retired from all formats and requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to grant the NOC, thus allowing him to play in foreign T20 leagues. Consequently, he played for Toronto Nationals (as captain) in the second season of the recently concluded Global T20 Canada 2019 League. Many former Indian cricketers were happy with the decision as they too hoped to play in leagues taking pl??ace ??overseas.

But the Committee of Administrators (CoA) strictly made it clear that Yuvraj’s case was an exception. No other Indian cricketer would be encouraged with an NOC to play in leagues other than the IPL.

“What happened in Yuvraj’s case was a one-off and we aren’t looking at handing out any NOCs at present for playing in foreign leagues. We discussed the matter, but felt no action is required to be taken on the issue,” a CoA member told IANS.

However, the BCCI officials were taken aback by this move of the CoA. ?They felt that rules should be the same for all the players.

“There is something called consistency, but clearly not under the current administration in the board. Arbitrary decision making isn’t the way when it comes to players and their careers,” one of the officials said.

“There might be quite a few former players who are no longer part of the scheme of things when it comes to the Indian team who would have thought of retiring and playing in T20 leagues. This sudden U-turn is unfair on them,” he added.

Another official expressed his view that if a cricketer announces retirement from the game, then he/she shouldn’t be permitted to play anywhere. After all, retirement isn’t location-specific.

“To be honest, you don’t retire geographically. You either retire or you don’t. If some country is permitting retired players to play in T20 leagues, that is an ICC issue. The ICC wishes to be ignorant on such issues. But as far as this U-turn is concerned, it is wrong,” he opined.

The second season of the G???lobal T20 Canada has reached its climax, but the final phase of the tournament got dramatic when a match between Winnipeg Hawks and Toronto Nationals got exciting a rift in a high-scoring match.

After bad light stopped play in the 18th over, the result was declared through a DLS system. Hawks won the high-scoring th?riller by 2 runs to see themselves in the Qualifier 2.

However, the match made headlines for the sensational catch taken by Nationals’ star all-rounder Kieron Pollard to dismiss the Hawks’ hard-hitting batsman, Chris Lynn.

Former India international Yuvraj Singh is turning head?s with his performances in the second season of the ongoing Global T20 Canada in Brampton.

On Saturday, Yuvraj sent the crowd at CAA Centre in Ontario in a tizzy by showing glimpses of his vintage self. The Toronto National skipper slammed a sensational 22-ball 51 in his side’s encounter against Brampton Wolves.

The stylish left-hander was in his elements once again as he took the Wolves’ bowlers to the cleaners smashing them all around the park en-route to his quickfire half-century.

Yuvraj hit five big sixes and three glorious fours during his knock. However, his valiant effort went in vain?? as the Nationals lost the game by 11 runs failing to chase down a hefty target of 223 runs.

The 37-year-old Yuvraj Singh might have retired from international cricket but still, he is very muc??h fit and can play franchise cricket for a couple of seasons at least.

During a match in the Global T20 Canada 2019, Yuvraj showed off his juggling act to take a stunning catch and send Le?ndl Simmons packing.

It was Jeremy Gordon’s second over and Simmons had hit the ball hard. The ball went straight to Yuvraj, who was fielding in the mid-off region.

However, it pooped out of Yuvi’s hands and on the third attempt, he completed the catch with a special leap, making the catch dramatic and stunning.

The 28-year-old Canadian opener hit South Africa’s JP Duminy for a huge six over deep mid-wicket while playing for Toronto Nationals. The left-handed batsman whacked the ball so hard that it adversely affected the glasses near the boundary.

The six was a third consecutive one and fourth in the over. Hawks’ Duminy went on to concede 26 runs from that over and was, therefore, taken off the attack.

In his innings of 65 off 46 balls, Thomas had hit three fours and five sixes. He was dismissed by Dwayne Bravo but ha??d laid a strong foundation for his team, till then.

Former India teammates Yuvraj Singh and Manpreet Gony combined to deliver a thrilling win for Toronto ??Nationals in their second match of Global T20 Canada 2019 against Edmonton Royals on Saturday in Ontario.

In the season opener against Vancouver Knights, Yuvraj was struggling ??with a back issue as he made just 14 from 27 balls before getting dismi??ssed in a bizarre fashion.

However, the southpaw came up with much-improved effort in his side’s second match at Brampton. He smashed 3 sixes and as many boundaries in his 21-ball 35 that helped the Nationals successfully complete a 192-run chase in 17.5 overs.

Yuvraj showed glimpses of his vintage self in the ninth over of the innings when he crafted Pakistan spin??ner Shadab Khan for a glorious flat six over mid-wicket to leave the bowler stunned.

Later, Yuvi’s dismissal triggered a mini-collapse as the Nationals lost four more wickets in a space of just 24 deliveries while adding 40 runs. It was, however, Manpreet Gony’s late blitz that got the Nationals’ over the line with two wickets in hand. Gony struck 33 runs in just 12 balls with three sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 275 as the Nationals secured victory with seven deliveries to spare.
