The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continues to deliver high-octane drama, and the 10th match of the season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad was no exception. On a humid Sunday evening, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a clash defined by spectacular athleticism and a gritty middle-order recovery. While the home crowd expected fireworks from their explosive openers, they instead witnessed a masterclass in fielding that sent shockwaves through the SRH dugout early in the innings.

Aiden Markram’s gravity-defying grab dismisses Travis Head in SRH vs LSG

The highlight of the match arrived in the third over, leaving the Hyderabad faithful in stunned silence. After losing Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the opening over, SRH pinned their hopes on the dangerous Travis Head. However, LSG’s veteran pacer Mohammed Shami had other plans. Following a tight opening spell, Shami produced a brilliant piece of deception at the 2.1-over mark.

Bowling from over the wicket, Shami delivered a clever off-cutter on a short-of-length trajectory. The ball, clocking in at just 121kph with a scrambled seam, completely outfoxed Head, who was expecting pace. As the left-hander attempted a tentative push forward, the lack of velocity caused him to lose his bottom-hand grip. The ball took a leading edge, popping up awkwardly toward mid-off.

Aiden Markram, stationed at mid-off, reacted with predatory instincts. Anticipating the trajectory, Markram launched himself into a full-length horizontal dive. In a blur of motion, he plucked the ball inches from the grass, completing a ‘worldie’ of a catch. This sensational effort sent Head back to the pavilion for just 7 runs off 8 balls, leaving SRH reeling at a precarious 8/2. Shami’s double-strike early on underlined his mastery over the new ball, finishing his opening burst with remarkable figures of 2 for 9.

Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy resurrect SRH to a fighting total against LSG

The early collapse didn’t stop at Head’s dismissal. LSG’s bowlers, led by Shami and the disciplined Prince Yadav, tore through the top order, reducing SRH to a shambolic 31/4 by the 9th over. Captain Ishan Kishan (14) and Liam Livingstone (14) both fell cheaply, leaving the middle order with a mountain to climb.

However, the game shifted during a massive 116-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The duo chose a path of calculated aggression, reaching the 100-run mark in just 14.3 overs. Reddy was particularly impressive, smashing 56 off 33 balls, including five towering sixes, proving why he is considered one of India’s brightest young talents.

At the other end, the reliable Klaasen anchored the innings with a fierce 62 off 41 deliveries. Their combined efforts propelled SRH from the brink of disaster to a competitive total. Despite a late-inning flurry of wickets by Avesh Khan and Prince, which saw SRH slip from 142/4 to 156/9, the home side managed to set a target of 157. With a bowling attack led by Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, SRH will feel they have enough on this surface to challenge the LSG heavyweights.
