Interestingly, the decision inadvertently favoured Namibia. The initial delivery was signalled a wide, but with the call of “dead ball,” India did not receive the extra run.

Umpire’s discretion and MCC laws add complexity
The legality of delivering from behind the crease is not explicitly prohibited under cricket’s conventional guidelines, provided the bowler remains within the field of play and delivers in front of the umpire’s line of vision. Erasmus has previously employed this approach without objection.
However, under the MCC Laws of Cricket – specifically Law 20.4.2 relating to dead ball and Law 41.2 addressing unfair play – umpires retain discretionary powers to intervene if they believe a delivery constitutes an unfair action or deliberately distracts the batter. The wording of these provisions leaves room for interpretation, meaning Tucker’s decision, while controversial, was not necessarily incorrect within the framework of the laws.
Following discussions, Tucker allowed Erasmus to continue bowling with a similar approach later in the spell, suggesting a mutual understanding had been reached.
Erasmus responds with best bowling figures in T20 Internationals
If the decision unsettled Erasmus, it did little to impact his performance. The Namibian skipper delivered one of the finest spells by a captain in T20 World Cup history, finishing with remarkable figures of 4 for 20 in his four overs.
His scalps included key Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel. The spell marked the joint-second-best bowling figures by a captain in a T20 World Cup match.
As far as the result of the match is concerned, India restricted Namibia at 116 in 18.2 overs during the 210-run chase, thereby, winning the contest by 92 runs.
