Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has finally spoken about his omission from India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, admitting that representing the country at a global tournament remains a lifelong dream for any cricketer. While acknowledging the disappointment of missing out, Siraj struck a mature and balanced note, expressing full faith in the current squad and reiterating his commitment to staying prepared whenever the team calls upon him.

Mohammed Siraj reflects on World Cup ambitions

Siraj revealed that playing in a World Cup is something every player aspires to, irrespective of format. Having been part of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in 2024, the Hyderabad-born pacer understands the magnitude of such tournaments and the emotions attached to selection calls.

“Obviously, playing a World Cup is a dream for every player,” Siraj said while addressing the media on the eve of the third ODI against New Zealand.

“I played the T20 World Cup last time but not this time. These things are part of a cricketer’s journey,” added Siraj.

Despite being left out of the 2026 edition, Siraj made it clear that there was no bitterness, only acceptance and motivation to keep pushing his limits.

The 30-year-old fast bowler was quick to endorse the selectors’ decision, stating that the chosen squad looks well-balanced and in excellent form. With India placing emphasis on younger, format-specific players for the shortest version of the game, Siraj acknowledged the direction the team management has taken.

Siraj also expressed hope that India can successfully defend their crown, confidently adding that the trophy belongs in the country for now and should continue to stay there.

“The team that has been selected looks very good on paper. Everyone is in form, and that’s what matters going into a big tournament. I just want to wish them good luck, the trophy is here only for now and it should stay here,” Siraj added further.
