Power-hitters have become the heartbeat of T20I cricket, reshaping how teams plan chases, set totals, and dictate momentum. A single over packed with sixes can flip a match on its head, forcing bowlers into defensive lines and captains into reactive field placements. From fearless openers to middle-order enforcers, six-hitting has evolved from a bonus skill into a primary weapon in the shortest format. But while clearing the ropes consistently is impressive, the idea of touching the 1,000-sixes milestone in T20 internationals feels almost unreal.
In franchise cricket, legends have pushed those boundaries. Chris Gayle famously smashed 1,056 sixes across 463 T20 matches worldwide. Replicating anything close to that in international cricket, with fewer matches and tougher bowling attacks, is an entirely different challenge. Yet, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes one young Indian batter has the mindset and firepower to make the impossible look possible.
Harbhajan Singh’s bold prediction on a future six-hitting machine
Speaking on Star Sports, Harbhajan didn’t shy away from making a striking prediction. He claimed that Abhishek Sharma gets a career as long as India’s modern greats, the six-hitting numbers could skyrocket. According to Harbhajan, longevity will be the key. He pointed out that players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have played well over a hundred T20Is, giving them the platform to build monumental records. If the same opportunity comes the way of Abhishek, Harbhajan feels the 1,000-sixes mark is not just fantasy but a realistic target.
“If Abhishek Sharma plays as many T20I matches as Rohit Sharma has, he will have 1,000 sixes to his name,” said Harbhjan on Star Sports.

Harbhajan’s remarks followed a stunning performance by Abhishek in the opening T20I between India and New Zealand. Batting with freedom and intent, Abhishek smashed a breathtaking 84, peppered with eight towering sixes, instantly putting the visitors under pressure.
What impressed Harbhajan the most was not just the clean hitting but the mindset behind it. He revealed that Abhishek had the chance to slow down and push for a century but chose to stay true to his attacking role for the team. That selflessness, according to Harbhajan, separates good players from match-winners.
“Abhishek Sharma could have easily scored a century, but he didn’t. He said he would continue batting in the same explosive style, even if it meant getting out. That’s the difference in mindset. It’s a huge thing that he didn’t think about himself and instead thought about the team. The way he’s batting right now, whenever he scores 50 runs, Team India wins. He’s a superstar, and bowlers have no answer against him,” said Bhajji on his YouTube channel.
The numbers already hint at something special. Despite playing only 33 T20Is, Abhishek has 81 sixes to his name—an extraordinary strike rate compared to established stars. For context, Rohit leads India’s six-hitters with 205, followed by Suryakumar Yadav (156) and Kohli (124).
