All five franchises – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and UP Warriorz – finalized their squads after intense bidding wars and dramatic twists. With a combined purse of ₹41.1 crore, teams filled up to 18 slots each, having retained 17 players beforehand. In total, 67 cricketers were picked for ₹40.8 crore, selected from a pool of 277 players (194 Indians and 83 overseas), underscoring the league’s growing financial strength and depth of talent.

UP Warriorz reclaimed her through a Right to Match (RTM) card for ₹3.2 crore, following a fierce tussle with Delhi Capitals. New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr followed closely at ₹3 crore to Mumbai Indians, while Sophie Devine fetched ₹2 crore from Gujarat Giants during an early marquee bidding frenzy. Other major signings included Australia’s Meg Lanning (₹1.9 crore, UPW), Laura Wolvaardt (₹1.1 crore, DC), and England pacer Lauren Bell (₹90 lakh, RCB), adding a mix of power-hitting, spin brilliance, and pace strength to the squads.
The auction delivered its share of surprises, with World Cup-winning captain despite a base price of ₹50 lakh. Uma Chetry, Tazmin Brits and Alana King also found no takers, sparking discussions about shifting market dynamics. UP Warriorz – armed with the largest purse (₹14.5 crore after a single retention) – dominated the auction by also securing Sophie Ecclestone (₹85 lakh via RTM) and Phoebe Litchfield (₹1.2 crore). Mumbai Indians reunited with Shabnim Ismail (₹60 lakh), while RCB strengthened their attack with Nadine de Klerk and Radha Yadav (₹65 lakh each).
With the WPL 2026 season scheduled from January 9 to February 5 in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, the stage is now set for an intensely competitive edition. Franchises will next turn to captaincy decisions and pre-season training camps, promising elevated standards and excitement as the league enters its third year.
