Brian Chari’s stunning half-century celebration took a heartbreaking turn in the 2025-26 Logan Cup match between Matabeleland Tuskers and Mega Market Mountaineers at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
Jubilant Zimbabwe batter pays the price for premature celebration with shocking run-out
On November 6, during the third match of the Zimbabwe‘s domestic first-class tournament, Chari, batting for Tuskers, reached his fifty with an elegant paddle sweep off Mountaineers spinner Definate Mawadzi. As he completed the run, Chari took a casual second run and began celebrating prematurely by raising his bat and walking away from the crease, presumably to share a moment with his non-striker Tafara Mupariwa.
However, a sharp return throw from Timycen Maruma from deep, combined with the quick glovework of wicketkeeper Joylord Gumbie, executed a surprising run-out before Chari could get back safely. The incident unfolded off the penultimate ball of the 52nd over of Tuskers’ first innings, leaving fans stunned as Chari departed for 51 runs off 80 deliveries, having struck six fours and a six. Mupariwa, meanwhile, continued to anchor the innings with a patient 81 from 169 balls as Tuskers reached 182 runs for four wickets at that stage.
Here’s the video:
Tuskers resume on their overnight score 133-2 in 49 overs with Tafara Mupariwa on 65 not and Brian Chari on 40.
After celebrating his 28th first-class half-century Brian Chari was run out for 51.

In domestic cricket, Chari has been a consistent performer, notably finishing as the leading run-scorer in the 2023/24 Logan Cup season.
This season’s Logan Cup, Zimbabwe’s premier first-class tournament, features top teams including the defending champions Mega Market Mountaineers and Matabeleland Tuskers. The match at Queens Sports Club saw Tuskers batting first after Mountaineers won the toss and opted to field. Mupariwa ‘s steady innings alongside Chari had laid a foundation for Tuskers before the shocking dismissal altered the momentum. The Logan Cup serves as a crucial platform for Zimbabwean players to showcase form and stake claims for national selection, adding significance to every milestone and moment within the contest.
This unsettling incident illustrates the unpredictable nature of cricket and the fine margins between success and setback, especially in the high-pressure environment of domestic first-class competitions like the Logan Cup.
