The much-anticipated second Test between Bangladesh and Ireland took place from November 19 to 23, 2025, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. Bangladesh entered the match after a commanding first Test performance and showcased a dominant cricketing display once again. The hosts posted a massive first-innings total of 476 runs, laying the foundation for a comprehensive victory. Ireland struggled throughout, bowled out for 265 in their first innings and later set a daunting target of 509 runs for Ireland to chase. The stage was set for a thrilling contest but Bangladesh’s bowlers, spearheaded by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, ensured a routine win by 217 runs.

Taijul Islam’s spectacular bowling brilliance against Ireland

Islam was the standout performer with the ball. He bowled a marathon 35.3 overs in Ireland’s first innings, conceding just 76 runs while taking 4 crucial wickets. His impact grew stronger in the second innings where he again claimed 4 wickets for 104 runs from 40 overs, repeatedly troubling the Irish batters with his clever variations in drift and dip.

Taijul struck early to remove key batters like Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling inside the first eight overs, reducing Ireland to 26/2 early in their chase. He continued to torment the middle order and became Bangladesh’s leading Test wicket-taker by surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s record, finishing the match with a tally of 8 wickets. His smart bowling effectively dismantled Ireland’s batting lineup and quelled any hopes they had of a successful chase.

Bangladesh’s commanding victory over Ireland in 2nd Test

Bangladesh set a mammoth target of 509 runs after declaring their second innings at 297 for 4, thanks to valuable contributions from Shadman Islam (78), Mominul Haque (87), and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (60). Ireland’s reply saw some resistance from lower-order batters such as Curtis Campher, who top-scored with an unbeaten 71 in the second innings. However, Ireland faltered under pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Despite some fighting knocks like Harry Tector’s 50 in the second innings, the visitors could not avoid an innings defeat, eventually being bowled out for 291 runs, 217 runs short of the target. The combined efforts of Bangladesh’s spin quartet, with Taijul leading the charge, ensured the home side sealed the Test series 2-0 with a commanding performance.
