Siraj was in exceptional rhythm during his spell, and his delivery to Marco Jansen was the perfect showcase of his skill. With South Africa struggling at 147/7, Siraj delivered a perfectly executed length ball, which reversed sharply after landing on the pitch. The ball swung back in towards Jansen, who was attempting a defensive shot but was unable to bring his bat down in time. The late swing beat the all-rounder’s defenses, and the ball went straight through the gate, uprooting his stumps. Jansen, late on the shot and failing to use his feet, was left with no chance. South Africa struggles at Tea on Day 1 of 1st Test vs India

Day 1 of the 1st Test between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens saw South Africa under significant pressure after they chose to bat first. The Indian bowlers, led by Bumrah, Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav, made early breakthroughs to put the visitors on the back foot. Despite a brief resistance from Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi, South Africa found themselves at 154/8 by Tea, with the tail exposed. India’s bowlers, especially Bumrah, maintained tight lines and used the conditions well to reduce South Africa to a precarious position.

South Africa, after winning the toss and opting to bat, got off to a solid start, reaching 50 runs in 9.2 overs. However, the fall of key wickets kept the scoring rate in check, and the pressure mounted. Ryan Rickelton (23) and Aiden Markram (31) were dismissed, followed by Temba Bavuma (3), Wiaan Mulder (24) and Tony de Zorzi (24). As the middle order crumbled, South Africa found themselves reeling at 120/5, with India’s bowlers continuing to exploit the conditions. Mohammed Siraj’s reverse swing and Kuldeep’s spin kept the batters guessing, while Bumrah’s pace made life even harder for the Proteas. At Tea, South Africa was left to rely on their lower order, with Tristan Stubbs (15) and the tailenders fighting to save face. With just 38 overs remaining in the day, India will be looking to wrap up the innings swiftly and gain a firm grip on the match.
