Andre Russell retires from IPL T20; joins KKR as member of support staff

Andre Russell, the iconic all-rounder for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has officially retired from the IPL after a glittering 14-season career with the league. Russell revealed his decision, expressing allegiance exclusively to KKR and declining to play for any other franchise, choosing instead to join KKR’s support staff as the team’s “Power Coach” for IPL 2026.

Russell’s IPL journey began in 2012 with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) before he moved to KKR in 2014, where he became a key figure in their two title wins (2014, 2024) and achieved multiple records including 16 Player of the Match awards. Despite his immense contributions, KKR released him ahead of the 2026 auction, prompting Russell’s retirement announcement, stating he did not want to represent any other franchise.​
