The third ODI between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at Abu Dhabi on October 14, 2025, proved to be a grand showcase of Afghanistan’s growing prowess in world cricket, marked by Mohammad Nabi’s jaw-dropping power hitting in the final overs. With the series already clinched, Afghanistan went into the contest looking to complete a clean sweep, and their batters set the tone from the start.

Afghanistan’s innings was anchored by Ibrahim Zadran, who struck a sublime 95 and was eventually named Player of the Series for amassing 213 runs across three matches. Sediqullah Atal provided valuable support with a composed 29. Yet, it was Mohammad Nabi who stole the limelight in the death overs. Walking in at a precarious moment, Nabi’s intent was clear: attack from ball one. The fireworks truly began in the penultimate over, as he faced off against Bangladesh captain and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz with the team at 258/9.

Nabi unleashed pure carnage, clubbing three consecutive sixes off Miraz’s 48th over—each stroke more audacious than the last. First, Nabi cleared mid-wicket, launching a full ball over the ropes for a towering six. On the very next delivery, he stood tall in his crease and hammered the ball over long-on, registering an 85-meter maximum that electrified the crowd. Maintaining his momentum, Nabi shimmied down the track and whacked the ball straight over long-on again, leaving both bowler and fielders helpless as the ball sailed over the boundary.

By the end of the innings, Nabi had raced to an unbeaten 62 from just 37 deliveries, including five towering sixes and a blistering strike rate exceeding 167. His explosive late blitz not only delighted fans but also propelled Afghanistan to an imposing total of 293 for nine in their allotted 50 overs, placing massive scoreboard pressure on Bangladesh for the chase.

Bangladesh, set a daunting target of 294, crumbled under sustained assault from Afghanistan’s bowlers. The reply began shakily, with the top order struggling for rhythm. Saif Hassan fought valiantly for his 43, but wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan’s disciplined spells stifled any resistance, and then Bilal Sami turned executioner, nabbing a career-best 5/33 in just 7.1 overs.

Bangladesh folded for a paltry 93 in 27.1 overs, marking one of their most comprehensive ODI defeats in recent memory. Afghanistan emerged victorious by a staggering margin of 200 runs and completed an emphatic 3-0 series sweep. Sami deservingly took home Player of the Match honours for his five-wicket haul, while Ibrahim was lauded as Player of the Series.
