Varun Chakaravarthy, India’s wrist-spinner, has come out strongly in defense of Ishit Bhatt, a junior contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), after the child faced harsh criticism for his perceived rude behavior toward Amitabh Bachchan. The seven-year-old’s overconfident remarks and insistence on shortcuts during the show went viral, sparking a wave of online backlash. Chakaravarthy, known for his candid style, highlighted the need for patience and understanding when dealing with children.

The young contestant, hailing from Gujarat, became an overnight sensation for lines such as, “Mere ko rules pata hai isliye aap mereko abhi rules samjhane mat baithna,” and insisting, “Arre option daalo,” while interacting with Bachchan. Ultimately, Ishit gave a wrong answer to a KBC question about the Valmiki Ramayana, yet the harsh online reaction overshadowed the innocence of the moment.

Chakaravarthy’s defense emphasized perspective, children are still learning, and their mistakes should not be magnified into public shaming. By taking a stand, he reminded viewers that empathy and patience are crucial when judging young participants under public scrutiny. His remarks sparked discussions on responsible social media usage and the importance of shielding children from unnecessary criticism. In doing so, Chakravarthy turned a viral controversy into a broader lesson on civility.

Chakaravarthy expressed his frustration at the vitriol directed toward Ishit Bhatt, calling out social media for fostering a culture of cowardice. Writing on X, he remarked, “Example of how social media has become a place for cowards running their mouths without any sense.! He is a kid for god sake !! Let him grow !! If u can’t tolerate a kid, imagine the society still tolerating many nut cases like the ones commenting on this kid and much more !!!!!”

Chakaravarthy prepares for Australia T20Is

While addressing the KBC controversy, Chakaravarthy is also gearing up for India’s upcoming T20I tour of Australia, beginning October 29. The 34-year-old wrist-spinner has been named in the five-match squad and brings an impressive T20I record, having taken 40 wickets in 24 games at an economy rate of 15.60.

His last performance in the multi-nation event saw him claiming seven wickets in six matches, proving his ability to strike at crucial moments. This will mark his first international stint in Australia, a challenging ground for spinners given the pace-friendly tracks. Chakaravarthy’s variations, control, and ability to bowl in powerplay situations make him a key asset for India’s white-ball plans.

As he prepares to face the Australian lineup led by the likes of Tim David and Glenn Maxwell, Chakravarthy must balance personal focus with public attention. His presence in the squad adds depth to India’s bowling attack, particularly in middle overs where breakthroughs are crucial. Ultimately, his performance in Australia could cement his place as a regular in India’s T20I setup. Chakaravarthy’s journey reflects a blend of skill, awareness, and social responsibility that defines contemporary Indian cricket.
