Reason behind Pakistan wearing pink-jersey against South Africa in the Rawalpindi T20I
Pakistan’s men’s cricket team is participating in a significant awareness drive by swapping their traditional green kits for striking pink jerseys in the first T20I at Rawalpindi. This change is a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the global “Pinktober” initiative, aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced the new look via its social media platforms, stating: “Turning pink for a cause that matters… Pakistan players to wear pink-themed kits in the first #PAKvSA T20I to raise awareness about breast cancer, as part of the #PINKtober initiative.”
This commitment to the cause extends beyond the players’ attire; “Moreover, South African cricketers, match officials, commentators, and broadcasters will also join the cause by wearing pink ribbons throughout the match.” The entire stadium atmosphere is reflecting the theme, with pink-branded stumps is being using during the fixture, while awareness messages and visuals displaying across the live broadcast. Furthermore, this initiative is a collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust Hospital in Lahore, which “will offer free clinical examinations and screenings for visitors on the same day.”
