The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 witnessed a fiery display of pace bowling when Guyana Amazon Warriors speedster Shamar Joseph sent Rassie van der Dussen‘s stumps flying with a near-unplayable delivery. The dismissal became one of the highlights of the tournament, sparking wild celebrations both on the field and among the fans at the packed stadium.

Shamar Joseph’s brutal strike to dismiss Rassie van der Dussen

It happened on the very first ball of the sixth over during Barbados Royals’ chase of 190. Joseph charged in with sheer pace and delivered a toe-crushing full ball that swung in late. Van der Dussen, who was hoping to steady the innings after a shaky start, completely misjudged the line. Playing across the delivery, he was beaten for pace as the ball crashed into the leg stump, sending it cartwheeling behind him.

Joseph, known for his raw aggression and wicket-taking ability, immediately set off in celebration, fists pumping in delight. The crowd erupted, recognizing the magnitude of the dismissal. Van der Dussen, a vital cog in the Royals’ batting lineup, was left stunned as he walked back without troubling the scoreboard further.

Shimron Hetmyer takes Guyana Amazon Warriors to a formidable total

Earlier, the Warriors posted an imposing 189/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was built around Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive knock of 68 from just 39 deliveries. Hetmyer combined aggression with placement, smashing boundaries at will and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Supporting him was Quentin Sampson, who compiled a well-paced 50 off 36 balls, ensuring the team capitalized on the middle overs. Their partnership laid the perfect foundation for a strong finish, despite the Royals’ bowlers pulling things back slightly in the death overs.

Barbados Royals falter in the chase

Chasing 190, the Barbados Royals never looked settled. Joseph’s early strike sent shockwaves through their camp, and wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Sherfane Rutherford tried to anchor the innings with a patient 27 off 32 balls, but the required run rate kept mounting.

A brief cameo from Kofi James, who smashed 26 off just 13 balls, gave the Royals some hope, but it was short-lived. Guyana’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, dismantling the middle and lower order.

Gudakesh Motie’s magical spell

While Joseph’s dismissal of Van der Dussen grabbed the headlines, it was Gudakesh Motie who sealed the game for Guyana. The left-arm spinner delivered a stunning spell, returning figures of 5/21 in just 3.2 overs. His control, variations, and ability to extract turn on a good batting pitch left the Royals clueless. Motie’s five-wicket haul ensured the Royals were bowled out for just 125 in 18.2 overs, handing Guyana a comprehensive 64-run victory.
