India delivered a commanding performance against Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2025 Group A clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 14. The encounter that traditionally captures global attention saw India secure a comprehensive seven-wicket victory with 25 balls to spare in what turned into a one-sided affair.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first but immediately found themselves in trouble as India’s bowling attack struck early. Hardik Pandya dismissed Saim Ayub with the first legal delivery of the match while Jasprit Bumrah followed up by removing Mohammad Haris to leave Pakistan reeling at 6/2. The early jolts set the tone for India’s dominance as Pakistan could only manage 127/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
India spinners strangle Pakistan’s middle order
India’s spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel produced a clinical bowling performance that dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up. Kuldeep emerged as the star performer with figures of 3/18 from his four overs including a devastating double-wicket 13th over where he dismissed Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz on consecutive deliveries.
Axar complemented perfectly with 2/18 as the spinners choked Pakistan’s scoring rate and picked up regular wickets. Sahibzada Farhan top-scored for Pakistan with 40 off 44 balls but received little support from his teammates except for Shaheen Afridi‘s late cameo of 33 not out that helped Pakistan reach a respectable total.
Suryakumar Yadav seals the deal with a maximum off Sufiyan Muqeem
Chasing 128 for victory, India’s batting lineup made light work of the target with Abhishek Sharma providing a blistering start by smashing 31 off just 13 balls. After losing early wickets captain Suryakumar Yadav anchored the chase brilliantly remaining unbeaten on 47 from 37 deliveries.
The defining moment came in the 16th over when Suryakumar sealed the victory in style by clearing his front leg and hammering Muqeem’s short ball outside off over midwicket for a six. The shot brought up India’s target with 25 balls remaining as they finished on 131/3 in 15.5 overs.
Tilak Varma contributed 31 runs while Shivam Dube remained not out on 10 to complete India’s dominant performance. Kuldeep was awarded Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling display that restricted Pakistan to an inadequate total.
