The much-anticipated three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is set to commence on July 2, 2025, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Following a competitive two-match Test series that saw the hosts clinch a 1-0 win, the spotlight now shifts to the 50-over format where both sides have recalled familiar faces to strengthen their squads.
Momentum with Sri Lanka after Test series win over Bangladesh
The recently concluded Test series ended in Sri Lanka’s favour after the first match ended in a draw and the hosts produced a clinical performance in the second Test, winning by an innings and 78 runs. The ODI leg offers Bangladesh a chance to bounce back, but the Lankans will be confident, especially on home soil.
Notable inclusions and squad updates
Sri Lanka will be led by middle-order batter Charith Asalanka, who continues in his leadership role. Fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka makes a return to the squad after missing the February series against Australia due to injury. Sadeera Samarawickrama has also been recalled after a brief absence, having last featured in the series against Zimbabwe in November 2024.
For Bangladesh, experienced wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is back in the ODI squad, providing both experience and stability at the top. Youngsters Mohammad Naim and Shamim Hossain have also been included, while left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam and pacer Hasan Mahmud return to boost the bowling department.
