In a breathtaking batting display on Day 3 of the Edgbaston Test, England’s young sensation Jamie Smith took Prasidh Krishna to the cleaners in a single over during the first session, turning the momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour.
Jamie Smith takes charge on Prasidh Krishna to shift momentum for England
The moment came just before lunch on Day 3, when the skipper handed the ball to Prasidh, making it the joint-most expensive over by an Indian bowler against England. After a quiet first delivery, Smith shifted momentum dramatically, smashing 23 runs off the remaining balls, including four crisp boundaries and a six.
Prasidh stuck with a short-ball tactic, but Smith was quick to pick it up and responded with commanding strokeplay, regardless of the pace variations. Every attempt to contain him was met with clean, confident hitting, as England’s innings suddenly picked up speed. That over not only changed the tempo of the session but also laid the foundation for a record-breaking partnership with Harry Brook, putting England back in the contest with real intent.

Prasidh’s poor run continues in the Edgbaston test
The 29-year-old Prasidh came into the Test series with plenty of promise, backed by an impressive IPL season. However, things have gone horribly wrong for him in the red-ball format so far. Marked by inconsistent line and length, Prasidh has been expensive in both Tests, drawing heavy criticism on social media.
In the first Test at Headingley, he did manage to pick up five wickets across both innings, but the concerning issue has been the rate at which he concedes runs. In the second innings of that match, he leaked runs at an economy of 6.1—unusually high for a Test pacer. Unfortunately, the pattern continued in the second Test. By tea on Day 3 at Edgbaston, he had conceded 72 runs in just 13 overs without claiming a single wicket.
