Ayush Mhatre hits fastest-ever hundred in Youth Tests
Chasing a daunting 355-run target in 65 overs, India U-19 needed an inspirational knock, and Mhatre delivered with authority. After opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi fell to the first ball of the innings, Mhatre took command of the chase. He began steadily before unleashing a flurry of boundaries and sixes, racing to his century in just 64 balls—a new Youth Test record, surpassing the previous record of 88 balls held by England’s George Bell (vs Sri Lanka U-19, 2022).

Result of the match
While Mhatre’s heroics put India firmly in the hunt, the team’s momentum was halted by bad light and rain just as they were closing in on what could have been a historic chase. India finished at 290 for 6 in only 40 overs, 65 runs short of the target, as the match was eventually called off and declared a draw.

Mhatre’s consistency run in Youth Test series
Mhatre’s form was sensational throughout the series. After scoring a fluent century in the first Youth Test (102 off 115) and following up with a brisk 80 in the first innings at Chelmsford, he capped off the series with his historic onslaught in the chase on Wednesday. In total, he amassed over 200 runs in the second Youth Test alone, maintaining a strike rate that rivals the most aggressive knocks in youth cricket history.
Mhatre’s nine sixes in the series also broke Saurabh Tiwary’s India U-19 record for most sixes in Youth Tests.
