Bangladesh cricket is witnessing a surge in global recognition, thanks in large part to the stellar performances of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings have set the stage for a fascinating rivalry, as Miraz’s recent heroics have propelled him to a career-best No.2 among Test all-rounders, putting Ravindra Jadeja’s long-standing reign at the top under real threat.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s magical run nears Ravindra Jadeja’s reign in Test cricket

Miraz’s rise in the ICC rankings is the result of an extraordinary all-round display in Bangladesh’s recent Test series against Zimbabwe. The 27-year-old was the architect of Bangladesh’s emphatic victory in the second Test at Chattogram, where he not only scored a crucial century from the lower order but also delivered a match-winning five-wicket haul in the final innings. Across the two-Test series, Miraz amassed 116 runs and claimed 15 wickets, earning both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honours.

This remarkable performance saw Miraz leapfrog South Africa’s Marco Jansen to claim the No.2 spot among Test all-rounders, reaching a career-high 327 rating points-just 73 behind Jadeja’s 400. The gap, once considered insurmountable, now appears within reach, especially given Miraz’s current form and versatility. Notably, Miraz also achieved the rare double of 2,000 Test runs and 200 wickets in just his 53rd Test, equalling Jadeja as the joint-fifth fastest in history to this milestone.

Bangladesh and Zimbabwe players make their mark in the ICC rankings

The latest ICC Test rankings update brought significant movement beyond the all-rounders’ list, with several Bangladesh and Zimbabwe players making notable gains. In the batting rankings, Miraz’s second Test century propelled him eight places up to a career-best 55th position. Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam surged 17 spots to 60th after his first-innings century, while Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams climbed to 19th, re-entering the top 20 following a solid half-century.

On the bowling front, Miraz’s five-wicket haul saw him rise two places to 24th, while teammate Taijul Islam jumped seven positions to 16th after a nine-wicket match haul, cementing his status as Bangladesh’s top-ranked bowler. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan also made significant progress, moving up six places to 54th.

Meanwhile, England’s Joe Root continues to dominate the Test batting rankings, holding firm at No.1, while India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked Test bowler.
