In an unprecedented move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has temporarily suspended the remainder of the IPL 2025 for a week. This decision, effective immediately, comes in the wake of rising national security concerns following a recent terrorist attack and military tension along the border. The IPL Governing Council, after extensive consultations with all key stakeholders, has opted to prioritize the country’s sovereignty and unity during this critical time.

BCCI consulted franchises, players, broadcasters and sponsors before suspending IPL 2025 for a week

The BCCI’s announcement was made after a series of discussions with franchise representatives, players, broadcasters, sponsors, and other associated partners. Most franchises expressed apprehension over continuing the league under the current circumstances, with players voicing concern over the prevailing atmosphere. The governing body emphasized that while cricket holds a special place in India’s cultural and sporting fabric, the safety and sentiments of all involved remain paramount.

Standing in full solidarity with the Government of India and the Armed Forces, the BCCI highlighted the bravery and relentless service of Indian soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor—a decisive military response to the terrorist incident and cross-border aggression by Pakistan’s forces. The Board acknowledged the unparalleled sacrifices made by the armed forces and assured that cricket would never come ahead of the country’s integrity and national interest.

New schedule to be announced soon

While the tournament remains suspended for a week, the BCCI clarified that updates regarding revised match schedules and venues will be shared after a detailed assessment in coordination with relevant authorities. The Board reassured fans that it would work towards resuming the tournament responsibly once the situation permits.

The BCCI also expressed gratitude to official broadcaster Jiostar, title sponsor Tata, and other commercial partners for backing the decision without hesitation. Their cooperation, the Board noted, reflects a shared commitment to national priorities over commercial or entertainment interests.
