Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has offered a refreshing perspective on her husband, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli‘s widely perceived aggressive on-field persona.
Anushka Sharma comments on the popular perception of Virat Kohli’s aggressive behaviour
In a recent interview, Anushka described Kohli as “the most shaant (calm) person I know,” directly challenging the narrative that often surrounds the celebrated athlete.
Speaking to Filmfare, Anushka provided a rare glimpse into Kohli’s off-field demeanor, painting a picture starkly different from his intense presence on the cricket pitch. “He’s one of the calmest persons I’ve met. Off the field, he’s so relaxed… He’s the most shaant person I know. I look at him and I’m like, ‘Wow! You’re so chill,’” the actress-turned-producer revealed.
Anushka attributed Kohli’s on-field intensity to his deep-seated passion for the sport, clarifying that it does not reflect his everyday temperament. “He’s like that on field only because he’s so passionate. He’s not aggressive in real life. That’s only his demeanour on the field,” she asserted, suggesting that those close to him can attest to his easygoing nature away from the game.
Anushka recalls the challenges she and Virat faced during the first six months of their marriage
The power couple, who tied the knot in 2017 and are now parents to two children, have often navigated the complexities of maintaining a relationship amidst demanding careers in the entertainment and sporting worlds. Anushka recounted the initial challenges, stating that they managed to spend a mere 21 or 22 days together in the first six months of their marriage due to their packed schedules. Despite this, she emphasized the foundation of mutual respect and the importance of individual space in their relationship. “I’m never going to be like, ‘Oh please spend more time with me at the cost of your work’. No, please do your work. He’s the same with me,” Anushka stated, underscoring their commitment to supporting each other’s professional endeavours.
Kohli himself has previously acknowledged the duality of his public image. While admitting to a tendency to become overly animated on the field, he has maintained that it stems from a strong desire to contribute to his team’s success. “The kind of person I am, the kind of personality I have, yes, I do have tendencies to kind of go overboard. And I’ve never shied away from that. But…the starting point has been of care. I want this all to be an event that helps my team win,” the star batter explained.
