In a high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a pivotal moment that shifted the momentum firmly in MI’s favour. With SRH under pressure to finish strongly, Heinrich Klaasen looked set for a late assault, standing at a well-compiled 37 off 27 deliveries. But Bumrah had other plans, executing one of the most impactful dismissals of the game.

Jasprit Bumrah’s thunderbolt uproots Heinrich Klaasen: A masterclass in death bowling

Coming in for the 19th over with the score at 136/4, Bumrah eyed the breakthrough. He attempted a classic yorker but instead delivered a blistering low full toss, deceptive, fast, and tailing in. Klaasen, anticipating the yorker and stepping away to the leg side, aimed to slice the delivery behind point. But the bat came down late and off-balance.

With razor-sharp precision, the ball whistled past Klaasen’s blade, beat his outstretched attempt, and cannoned into the off stump. The stump flew out of the ground, tumbling backwards, an emphatic visual of Bumrah’s brutal efficiency. Klaasen stood stunned, having completely misread the delivery, while Bumrah offered a subtle smile and raised his hand, knowing the value of that dismissal. It was not just a wicket, it was a psychological blow to SRH. Klaasen was their set batter, striking at over 130, and had the potential to add quick runs in the death. Bumrah, however, nullified that threat with a delivery that was equal parts raw pace and calculated execution.

SRH post competitive 162/5 as MI bowlers restrict acceleration at Wankhede

SRH ended their innings on a competitive note with 162/5 on the board, thanks to valuable contributions from the top and middle order, but were denied a flourish by disciplined MI bowling. Abhishek Sharma provided early impetus with a 28-ball 40, combining power and placement during the powerplay. Travis Head, though scratchy, hung around for 28 but consumed 29 deliveries, slowing momentum through the middle overs.

The turning point came with the introduction of Will Jacks, whose tidy spell of 2/14 removed both Head and Ishan Kishan, choking SRH’s run flow during the crucial phase. Klaasen once again stood up in the death overs, smashing 37 off 28 and keeping hopes alive before being cleaned up by a Bumrah special, a searing full toss that uprooted off stump and halted any final charge. Lower-order cameos from Aniket Verma (18 not out off 8) and skipper Pat Cummins (8 not out off 4) pushed SRH beyond 160, but they were arguably 15-20 runs short on a true Wankhede surface. Among MI’s bowlers, Bumrah and Trent Boult stood out for their death-overs control, while Hardik Pandya was a bit expensive.
