In a rain-marred evening at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a commanding five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a 14-over-per-side contest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Punjab Kings triumph in a rain-hit thriller against RCB at Chinnaswamy
Put into bat on a damp surface, RCB’s top order faltered yet again, as the team slipped into early trouble with quick wickets. Amid the chaos, Tim David emerged as the lone warrior, countering the PBKS attack with an aggressive and calculated knock. His 50 off just 26 deliveries, featuring a mix of innovative shots and sheer power, gave RCB something to defend. However, with little support from the rest of the batting lineup and wickets tumbling at regular intervals, the hosts could only muster 95/9, a total far from ideal, even in a 14-over contest.
Chasing a modest target, PBKS never looked under pressure. Nehal Wadhera, known for his composure under pressure, led the way with a classy 33 off 19 balls, mixing timely boundaries with smart rotation of strike. His innings anchored the chase and ensured that PBKS stayed ahead of the required rate throughout. While Josh Hazlewood tried to turn things around for RCB with an incisive spell of 3/14, it wasn’t enough. PBKS crossed the finish line in 12.1 overs, sealing a win that underlined their growing form and consistency
RCB’s home ground woes reach new heights
With this latest defeat, RCB have now lost all three of their home games in IPL 2025, falling to Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and now PBKS. These defeats have been by margins of 8 wickets, 6 wickets, and 5 wickets respectively, underlining the team’s inability to capitalize on home advantage. This streak has also earned them an unwanted record: RCB have now suffered 46 losses at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the most by any team at a single venue in IPL history. They have overtaken DC, who previously held the record with 45 defeats at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. While other teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and PBKS have also had poor home records over the years, none have fared as badly on home soil as RCB have now.

Fans’ frustration boils over after RCB’s repeated failures at Chinnaswamy
The mood among RCB supporters is quickly turning from hope to despair. Over the years, the franchise has drawn large, passionate crowds at this iconic venue, but time and again, their hopes have been dashed by disappointing results. Following this loss to Punjab, social media was abuzz with angry reactions, with many fans sarcastically calling for the venue to be the most cursed place – a sentiment born more out of emotional exhaustion than logic. The repeated heartbreaks at home have created a psychological barrier not only for fans but perhaps for players as well, as RCB continue to struggle when it matters most in front of their loyal base.
