In a light-hearted moment during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag reacted hilariously to a meme featuring former Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Following Pakistan’s disappointing loss to New Zealand in their opening match, social media was abuzz with memes, one of which humorously referred to Babar as “Bobzy.”
Virender Sehwag’s playful banter
Sehwag, known for his witty remarks and sharp humour, couldn’t resist joining in on the fun. During a chat show on Cricbuzz, Sehwag was asked by the anchor as to whether there was “Bobzy kar lega” vibe in the opening game of Champions Trophy 2025. Sehwag, admitting that he has no idea about the viral meme or the funny nickname, asked who “Bobzy” was. He stated that Babar could have finished the game for Pakistan had he batted till the end.
“Bobzy hai kaun, pehle mujhe yeh bolo (Who is Bobzy, tell me first.) He was batting well. If he had stayed till the end. I have no idea about the meme,” Sehwag said.
“Obviously, Babar Azam has that ability. There is no doubts about that,” added Parthiv Patel, who was the another guest in the show, before everyone shared a laughter. Sehwag then remarked, “Bobzy, King. Aur kitne naam hai unke (How many more names does he have?).”

Context of Sehwag’s reaction
Babar has been under scrutiny for his recent form, having struggled with the bat in the lead-up to the tournament. His slow-paced batting performance against New Zealand, where he scored 64 runs off 90 balls, has led to widespread criticism and discussions among the fans and experts. The meme culture surrounding sports often amplifies such moments, and Sehwag’s reaction highlights how humour can be a coping mechanism for fans and players during big events.
