The 17th clash of the Big Bash League 2024-25 on the New Year’s eve saw Adelaide Strikers taking on Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval. The visiting side won the toss and invited Strikers to bat first which proved to be detrimental as Scorchers clinched their third victory in BBL 2024-25. Strikers on the other hand, remain at the second-bottom of the table along with Melbourne Stars with just 1 win in 5 matches.
A determined bowling display from Scorchers crush Strikersbatting order
Strikers had a dreadful start to their innings with Ollie Pope, Chris Lynn and Jake Weatherald going back to the pavilion early. Opener D’Arcy Short and captain Alex Ross offered some resistance to add 42 crucial runs to the team’s total between the two batters. However, Strikers would have never reached a three-digit total without a remarkable 47-run knock from Brendon Doggett and 29 runs from Cameron Boyce. The two batters, coming at No.10 and No. 11 respectively, contributed immensely to help Strikers reach a total of 142/8 in their 20 overs.

Finn Allen and Cooper Conolly contribute with the bat to seal the win for Scorchers
In response, Scorchers did not start the run chase well with Matthew Hurst getting dismissed in the 2nd over of the innings. Aaron Hardie too, followed the wicket-keeper batter four deliveries later. Scorchers at that time were in deep trouble with a score of 5 runs for 2 wickets. Opener Finn Allen and middle order batter Cooper Connolly took the responsibility of the run chase on their shoulders and added 84 runs between them to save the team from falling like a pack of cards. Allen’s impeccable half-century off 23 balls provided the team with a solid base to make this run chase a cake-walk for Scorchers. Towards the end, another partnership between Conolly and captain Ashton Turner did the rest to cruise through the New Year’s clash.

Cooper Connolly just rolling on beautifully, Finn hopefully back in form and the skipper with the icing on the cake.
Always nice to silence the Blue Crew â€?even better to do it on their big New Year’s Eve game!— Daniel Davini (@davvers605)
Time to regroup.

I can see Cooper Connolly becoming Ussie Khawaja’s replacement in the Test side. I realise it was just a T20 game tonight but he has such a good temperament, I can see him playing Tests very very soon
