During Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Royals, Shimron Hetmyer delivered a match-defining moment with a spectacular catch. The incident occurred iꦯn the 10th over of the first innings, as Hetmyer’s brilliance in the field played a pivotal role in swinging the momentum in favor of his team.

Barbados Royals’ Kadeem Alleyne, trying to clear the boundary once again, miscued a shot over the covers off Moeen Ali‘s bowling. Hetmyer, fielding in the deep, charged in with lightning speed and completed a sensational diving catch to dismiss Alleyne for 11 off 11 balls. This stunning effort from Hetmyer not only left the crowd in awe but also gave Ali his first wicket of the match. Alleyne was dismissed after scoring 11 runs off 11 balls

Guyana Amazon Warriors dominate in the run-chase

Batting first, the Barbados Royals were bundled out for a modest total of 148 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a high-stakes match, none of the Royals’ batters managed to anchor the innings, with only David Miller standing out as the top scorer, contributing 36 off 26 balls. Guyana Amazon Warriors’ bowlers were relentless, with Romario Shepherd emerging as the standout performer. Shepherd’s four-over spell wreaked ha🦂voc on the Royals’ lineup, as h𝓡e claimed 3 key wickets, keeping the Royals under constant pressure throughout the innings.

In response, the Guyana Amazon Warriors displayed a commanding performance with the bat, effortlessly chasing down the target of 149 in just 14.3 overs. Shai Hope, the wicketkeeper-batter, led the charge with a bliste🍬ring 56 off 33 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Supported byꦫ a solid innings from Ali, who contributed 44 runs, the Warriors reached the final score with the loss of only two wickets, cementing an 8-wicket victory.

Ali’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award. In addition to his crucial contribution with the bat, Ali had an impact with the ball, picking up two wickets in the first innings, including the pivotal dismissal of Alleyne.
