Keacy Carty produced an extraordinary moment of brilliance on Day 2 of the first Test between West Indies and South Africa at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. In a remarkable display of athleticism, Carty took a stunning diving catch to dismiss David Bedingham, providing his teammate Jayden Seales with his maiden home Test wicket.

Keacy Carty’s spectacular catch

The memorable moment took place on the fourth ball of the 64th over when Seales delivered a shortish ball at 127 km/h, rising to rib height around the off-stump. Bedingham attempted an old-school pull shot, lif🐽ting his front leg but failing to find the gap. Positioned at deep forward square leg, Carty was a few meters in from the boundary.

Reacting swiftly, he dove forward, cupping his wrists just above the grass, and managed to scoop the ball inches from the ground. Despite a third-umpire review due to a blurry zoomed image, Carty’s fingers were determined to be underneath the ball, securing the catch as he tumbled chest-first into the ground. The third umpire was satisfied, and Bedingham, already halfway back to the pavilion, was confirmed out, marking Seales’ first Test wicket at home.

Temba Bavuma propels South Africa to a commanding total

Following a rain-affected first day, South Africa resumed their innings at 45/1 on Day 2, determined to make up for lost time. Tony de Zorzi quickly reached his half-century before being dismissed for a well-crafted 76. Tristan Stubbs and Bedingham provided useful contributions but fell to sharp West Indies bowling, leaving South Africa to rebuild. Temba Bavuma, the South African captain, anchored the innings with a gritty 86, continuing his struggle to convert fifties into centuries. His partnership with Ryan Rickleton added 57 runs before Rickleton was trapped leg-before by Kemar Roach.

Jomel Warrican shines for the West Indies

In the final session, Jomel Warrican led a strong fightback for the West Indies, taking two quick wickets, including a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Kyle Verreynne for 39. Wiaan Mulder, unbeaten on 37, and Kagiso Rabada, on 12, guided South Africa to 344/8 at stumps. Warrican emerged as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/66 on a pitch not too helpful for the bowlers. As Day 3 approaches, South Africa will look to add crucial runs, while the West Indies will aim to finish the in💧nings swiftly and take control of the match.
