The second ODI match was played between Sri Lanka and India at R. Premadasa stadium, Colombo on Sunday. Opting to bat first Islanders posted a total of 240/9 in their allotted 50 overs setting up a target of 241. In response, Indian openers got the good start as both openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill joined the first wicket partnership of 97 runs. After Rohit’s dismissal, the Indian batting order crumbled, collapsing in tatters.

Shubhman Gill falls victim to Jeffrey Vandersay in the second ODI

Gill returned to the dressing room shortly after Rohit, his senior opening partner and captain, was dismissed. The young opener scored 35 runs from 44 balls, including three bold boundaries, before falling victim to an ambitious off-sღide drive that led to his dismissal.

After racing to 35 off 43 balls, the young Indian opener Gill attempted to crash Jeffrey Vandersay‘s turning delivery onto his off-side. However, the cricketer managed to get a thick edge as the ball flew towards Kamindu Mendis at first slip.

In reply, Kamindu outstretched his right hand to grab the ball from behind him as India slipped to 116-2 in 17.1 over♌s.

Vandersay’s stunning spell shakes up the Indian batting order

After Gill’s dismissal, Vandersay continued his dominance by dismantling the Indian middle order. He claimed six wickets in just his first seven overs and conceded only 26 runs. His exceptional performance significantly altered the game’s dynamics, firmly turning the tide in Sri Lanka’s favor.

Earlier in the match, the Islanders finished at 240 for nine in their allotted 50 overs on a challenging turning wicket. Opener Avishka Fernando and no.8 Kamindu were the top scorers for the Sri Lankan side, each contributing 40 runs. For Team India, Washington Sundar was the standout bowler, tak🐼ing three crucial wickets in his 10-over spell.
