Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a competitive total of 248 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Avishka Fernando was the standout performer for the hosts, scoring a well-crafted 96 runs off 102 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. Kusal Mendis also contributed significantly with a solid 59 runs off 82 deliveries. However, the innings saw a few hiccups, with the team losing quick wickets 🥃towards the end, which restricted them from reaching a higher total.

In response, India struggled dramatically, collapsing to 138 all out in just 26.1 overs. The Indian batting lineup faltered against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack, with only Rohit Sharma (35) and Washington Sundar (30) managing to reach double figures. The Indian innings was characterized by a series of poor shots and excellent bowling from Sri Lanka, particularly from right-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage, who took 5 wickets for 27 runs in 5.1 overs.

“Very happy with the innings. The batters got together and did a good job. It was a challenging wicket and a bit disappointed not to get a hundred but happy with the win,” Fernando said after being awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ in the post-game presentation.

Meanwhile, ‘Man of the Series’ Wellage said: “I want to thank my skipper, team mates and coaching staff. Everyone gave me great support and that’s why I am here. We adjusted to the wicket as it was turning. It was same like the first two ODIs and committed less mistakes today. The batters did a good job and then the spinners bowled well. Everyone is supporting each other and I am excited to be part of the team.”
