In the 5th T20I between India and Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson captivated cricket fans with a colossal 110-metre six that soared above the roof of the stadium and went out of the park. This breathtaking moment occurred as India batted first after Zimbabwe’s skipper Sikandar Raza won the toss and opted to field.

Early setbacks and Sanju Samson’s arrival

India faced early setbacks in their innings, losing key wickets of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma within the powerplay. The situation called for a stabilizing force, and Samson rose to the occasion. Walking out to the middle, he joined forces with his Rajasthan Royals (RR) teammate, Riyan Parag, to steady India’s innings.

Samson and Parag built a crucial 65-run partnership for the fourth wicket that helped India recover from their early losses. This partnership was essential in bringing India back into the game after their top-order collapse. The duo’s efforts not only stabilized the innings but also set the platform for a potential late-innings acceleration.

The 110m six: A moment of brilliance by Samson

The highlight of Samson’s innings came in the 12th over when he faced Brandon Mavuta. On the fourth ball of the over, Mavuta bowled a delivery that was in Samson’s arc, closer to the batter. Samson swung beautifully and sent the ball straight down the ground, clearing the roof of the stadium. This remarkable shot traveled a whopping 110 metres, showcasing Samson’s power and timing. With this monstrous hit, Samson reached a significant milestone, completing 300 sixes in T20 cricket. Samson’s innings eventually came to an end after he scored a well-crafted 58 off 45 balls. His efforts, combined with Parag’s support, laid a solid foundation for India to build upon in the latter stages of their innings.
