In a bombshell revelation, former Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) player Amit Mishra has provided unprecedented details about the heated argument between team captain KL Rahul and team owner Sanjiv Goenka during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
According to Mishra, Rahul and Goenka’s dispute was intense, involving a significant disagreement over the team’s strategy and performance. The veteran spinner described the exchange as a “heated discussion,” indicating tensions between the two parties.
The revelation
In a recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, the 41-year-old veteran Amit shed new light on the behind-the-scenes drama that unfolded within the LSG camp during the IPL 2024. While the exact nature of the animated chat remains unclear, it is evident that the rift between Rahul and Goenka was severe enough to disrupt the team’s morale and performance.
Pondering over the fiasco, Amit revealed: “He (Goenka) was disappointed. We lost two back-to-back matches very badly. Against KKR, we lost by some 90-100 runs, and against SRH, the match was finished within ten overs. It felt like we were bowling them during a net practice session. If I am so angry about it, will someone who has actually put money into the team not feel angry?”
The controversy sent shockwaves through the cricketing community, with many speculating the reasons behind the ill-mannered discussion. Amit’s revelations have added a new layer of intrigue to the incident, providing a rare insider’s perspective on the dynamics within the LSG team. He also commented on how the media hyped up the issue using different platforms.
“It was not a huge deal. But I later came to know that he said that the bowling was very bad and the team should have shown some fight. It looked like you have completely surrendered. But I feel people and media hyped it up a bit,” the leg-spinner revealed.

Adding more spice to the conversation
In a related development, Amit has also made claims about the impact of fame and captaincy on players, suggesting that former India captain Virat Kohli underwent significant changes after achieving success and taking on the leadership role. This contrasts the consistent demeanour of current India captain Rohit Sharma, despite his acco🍨mplishments and captai𒀰ncy responsibilities.
Amit’s comments have also sparked discussions about the role of captains and team owners in professional sports, particularly in the context of the IPL. The incident highlights the delicate balance that must be struck between the team’s on-field leadership and the franchise’s management’s off-field decision-making.
