Australia began their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a convincing 39-run victory over Oman in Match 10 at the Kensi🔯ngton Oval in Bridgetown.
David Warner and Marcus Stoinis star with the bat
Opting to bowl first, Oman might have had early hopes after dismissing Travis Head (12), Mitchell Marsh (14) and Glenn Maxwell (0) cheaply. However, veteran opener David Warner (56 runs off 51 balls) steadied the ship with a well-paced fifty. The turning point came with the arrival of Marcus Stoinis at the c♑rease. The all-rounder unleashed a powerful display of batting, smashing an unbeaten 67 off just 36 deliveries, includi💙ng six towering sixes. His knock propelled Australia to a competitive total of 164/5 in their 20 overs.
Mehran Khan (2/38) was the pick of the bowlers for Oman.
Oman’s batting falters in run chase
Chasing 165 for victory, Oman’s batting crumbled under pressure. Openers Kashyap Prajapati (7) and Pratik Athavale (0) were sent back early, leaving them with a mountain to climb. While captain Aqib Ilyas (18) and Ayan Khan (36) showed some fight with valuable contributions, the lack of partnerships proved costly. Oman’s middle order faltered, and they were eventually restricted to 125/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Stoinis (3-0-19-3), Nathan Ellis (2/28), Adam Zampa (2/24) and Mitchell Starc (3-0-20-2) sha✃red the bowling spoils for Australia.
For his all-round performance, including a crucial knock with the bat and three wickets with t🐭he ball, Stoinis was deservedly adjudged the Player of 🌳the Match.
