Following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Ambati Rayudu didn’t miss the chance to take a jab at RCB. The Faf du Plessis-led RCB suffered a significant setback, succumbing to a four-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator match held on Wednesday (May 22) at the Narendrꩵa Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
RCB’s valiant defense falls short in IPL 2024 Eliminator
Despite posting a below-par total of 172/7 in their allotted 20 overs, the RCB displayed commendable resilience in their efforts to defend it against the RR. However, their defensive efforts ultimately proved insufficient as Rovman Powell orchestrated a tense four-wicket victory for the RR. Powell’s heroics included a decisive six struck straight back over the Lockie Ferguson‘s head, securing victory for RR with just 5 runs needed off the last 7 deliveries.

Ambati Rayudu’s biting remark
Speaꦛking to Star Sports, after the match, Rayudu subtly hinted that such displays of aggression alone cannot secure IPL trophies. Reminding fans that success in the IPL is not solely determined by triumphing over CSK or showcasing overt aggression, Rayudu added that RCB would again have to t𒁃ry next year.
“You didn’t get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the same hunger. Don’t think you will win the IPL trophy just by beating CSK. You will have to come next year once again,” Rayudu said.

RCB’s history of criticism
Notably, RCB’s victory over CSK in the league stage had sparked controversy, with the Bengaluru-based franchise facing backlash for their exuberant celebrations on the field. Furthermore, reports emerged of RCB allegedly disregarding CSK legend MS Dhoni, who was speculated to be playing his final match of his professional career. The franchise and its fans faced criticism for their behavior towards CSK supporters outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, reflecting a broader sentiment of dissatisfaction with RCB’s conduct.
