A new wax statue of former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is set to be installed at the Nahargarh Jaipur Wax Museum in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The installation marks the occasion of World Heritage Day on April 18, honoring Kohli’s remarkable contributions to the sport of cricket.
Virat Kohli’s statue was a popular demand
The demand for a wax statue of Kohli has been rising over the past year, particularly from children and young cricket fans. The Jaipur Wax Museum, which already houses statues of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, decided it was time𓃲 to add Kohꩲli to its collection.
Anup Srivastava, the Founder-Director of the Jaipur Wax Museum, emphasized Kohli’s popularity and the significance of his achievements in cricket. Srivastava expressed the decision to install the statue as a natural progression, given Kohli’s status as a sports icon and role model for the youth.
“Last year, there was a demand to make a statue of Virat Kohli from tourists, especially kids and youth who are crazy about the Delhi opener. Now that Virat has also become a sports icon for children and youth, what could be a better occasion than now when he has reached the highest level in world cricket, to install his wax statue. So, we also decided after batting great Sachin Tendulkar and former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a wax figure would be created for Virat,” said Srivastava as quoted by ETV Bharat.
Fans express disappointment
The unveiling of Kohli’s wax statue’s initial look on Friday created a stir on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). While the announcement was met with excitement, many fans expressed disappointment in the statue’s appearance.
Fans took to social media to share their opinions on the wax statue, with many criticizing its likeness to the Indian cricket star. Users posted comparisons an𒐪d memes, with some even drawing humorous parallels to other personalities and celebrities.
