IPL 2024 [WATCH]: Ashutosh Sharma sends the ball sailing with a sweep shot against MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah

In the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings (PBKS) clashed with Mu𓂃💎mbai Indians (MI) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Put in to bat first, MI set a formidable target of 193 runs with notable contributions from Rohit Sharma (36 off 25), Suryakumar Yadav (78 off 53) and Tilak Varma (34 off 18).

Despite a challenging start, PBKS demonstrated their resilience in the face of adversity. With their top four batters struggling to make significant scores, the match appeared to be slipping from their grasp as they stumbled to 77 runs for the loss of six wickets. However, the tide turned dramatically when Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh stepped up to the crease. Their aggressive batting and cruc𝓰ial partnership not only shifted the m𓂃omentum but also rekindled hope for PBKS, altering the course of the game.

Ashutosh Sharma sweeps Jasprit Bumrah for a maximum

In a moment that took everyone by surprise, PBKS batter Ashutosh executed a stunning sweep shot for a six off Jasprit Bumrah‘s fifth delivery in the 12th over. Bumrah, who had bowled a no-ball on the preceding delivery, aimed for a yorker on the next ball to prevent the batsman from capitalizing on the free hit. However, Ashutosh, secure in the knowledge that he couldn’t be dismissed, played a shot that caught everyone off guard. This unexpected move added a thrilling twist to the game. Notably, Ashutosh smashed 61 runs off 28 balls against MI.

In the face-off against MI, he dominated quality bowlers, amassing 41 runs from just 25 deliveries at an i🦩mpressive strike rate of 164. Despite being selected accidentall🉐y in the IPL auction, the 32-year-old batter has undeniably proven himself to be a valuable asset for PBKS.
