In a remarkable cricketing feat, 19-year-old Musheer Khan overjoyed the audience in the Wankhede Stadium by scoring a century for Mumbai on Day 3 during the Ranji Trophy 2024 final against Vidarbha on Tuesday (March 12). This young sensation had recently made a mark in the ICC U19 World Cup and continued to display extraordinary talent.
Musheer Khan special ton for Mumbai
Despite a lackluster first innings where Mumbai bundled out for 224 only, Mumbai’s batters, led by Ajinkya Rahane‘s resilient 78-run knock staged a comeback in the second innings. Musheer, along with Rahane and Shreyas Iyer, punished Vidarbha’s bowlers, propelling Mumbai to a commanding position.
His century, completed in 255 balls, demonstrated maturity beyond his years, elevating Mumbai to a formidable lead over 450 runs. Eventually he got out after scoring 136. Apart from Musheer, Iyer also contributed by scoring 95 runs and provided a glimpses of being in great touch after recently losing the BCCI’s central contract.
Record-breaking moment: Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar
Notably, Musheer, at 19 years and 14 days, surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s record, becoming the youngest Mumbai batter to hit a century in a Ranji Trophy final – a feat previously accomplished by Tendulkar at the age of 21 in 1994-95, where he scored two centuries (140 and 139) leading Mumbai to triumph against Punjab.

Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Vidarbha have a breakthrough but I fear Mumbai might have gone too far ahead. Mighty impressed with young Musheer Khan's temperament. I only hope that, going ahead, he develops his spin bowling too.

Shreyas Iyer looking solid. Good to see him dominate in such a big match. Almost run a ball inning.
I am also impressed by Musheer Khan's resilience. He has showed his talent in the Ranji after his U-19 WC stint. If he adds some more shots & don't stop bowling he is a 🇮🇳 star.— Abhishek Ojha (@vicharabhio)
Musheer Khan (19y 14d) is Mumbai's youngest centurion in a final since Sachin Tendulkar in 1994-95, where he scored twin centuries against Punjab a few weeks short of his 22nd birthday. In the QF v Baroda, he had become Mumbai's second-youngest double centurion.
