In the climactic finale of the five-game Test series between India and England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, the spotlight shone brightly on the young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

On Day 1 of the match, India’s bowlers showcased brilliance, restricting England to a modest score of 218. Following the stellar performance by the bowlers, Jaiswal took center stage and embarked on a record-shattering spree in the breathtaking setting of Dharamsala, with the snow-capped Himalayas providing a picturesque backdrop.

Record-breaking run: Surpassing Virat Kohli’s legacy England

With his initial run in the fifth and final Test, Jaiswal broke a longstanding record held by the legendary Virat Kohli. He now holds the record for the most runs by an Indian in a Test series against England, surpassing Kohli’s impressive tally of 655 runs at an average of 109.16 in the 2016/17 series.

Elite company: Joining Sunil Gavaskar in the 700-Club

Despite being dismissed after a commendable knock of 57 runs, Jaiswal joined the elite company of Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar. He became only the second Indian b🦄atter, after Gavaskar, to exceed 700 runs in a si🐈ngle Test series. Gavaskar achieved this feat twice in his illustrious career, scoring 774 against the West Indies in 1970/71 and 732 against the same opponents in 1978/79.

Surpassing Gavaskar: Setting new records after eight Tests

Jaiswal’s phenomenal run spree didn’t stop there. By accumulating a total of 971 runs, he surpassed Gavaskar’s record for the most runs by an Indian after eight Test matches. Gavaskar had set a formidable benchmark of 938 runs in his initial eight Tests, and Jaiswal’s achievement marked a new chapter in Indian cricket history.

Speeding to 1000: Fastest Indian in Test Cricket

In a remarkable display of prowess, Jaiswal also became the fastest Indian and Asian batter to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket. Achieving this milestone in only his ninth Test match, he outpaced the joint record held by Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara, who both reached 1000 runs in 11 Tests. Don Bradman‘s record of achieving this feat in just seven Test matches still stands as the overall benchmark.

Six-hitting spectacle: Shattering records with aggression

Jaiswal’s audacious style of play extended beyond runs and records. He now holds the record for the most sixes by an Indian player against a single opponent in Tests. With an astonishing 26 sixes against England, Jaiswal surpassed Sachin Tendulkar‘s previous record of 25 sixes against Australia and Rohit Sharma‘s 22 sixes against South Africa. In꧅ Dharamsala, Jaiswal not only showcased his batting prowess but also redefined the dynamics of aggressive Test cricket.
