The second day🀅 🐼of the Vizag Test between India and England witnessed a display of dominance by the home team at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. After wrapping up their first innings in the morning session, India’s bowlers put up a remarkable performance to restrict England and maintain their stronghold in the match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s spectacular double hundred
The day commenced with India resuming their innings at 336/6, with Yashasvi Jaiswal showcasing exceptional batting skills. Jaiswal, continuing from his overnight score of 179, reached the milestone of a maiden double century in style, eventually being dismissed for a stellar 209 by James Anderson. However, India’s lower order struggled against the English bowling attack, and the innings concluded at 396. England’s bowlers, led by Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir, managed to pick up three wickets each.
England’s steady response
In reply, England’s opening batsmen, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, started steadily against the Indian bowlers. The pair put up a resilient partnership, accumulating 59 runs before Kuldeep Yadav broke through by dismissing Duckett for 21. Crawley, however, continued his impressive form and registered a notable half-century. He was supported by Ollie Pope as they added 55 runs before Axar Patel sent Crawley back to 💛the pavilion after a comౠmendable knock of 76.
Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance decimates England
India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, turned the tide in India’s favour with a sensational bowling spell. Bumrah’s fiery deliveries dismantled the English batting order, claiming six wickets in quick succession. His scalps included key wickets like Joe Root (5), Ollie Pope (23), and Jonny Bairstow (25), among others. Bumrah’s exceptional figures of 6/45 in 15.5 overs, including 5 maidens, played a crucial role in restricting England to 253 all out.
India’s firm grip at stumps
At the end of the day’s play, India maintained their dominance, finishing at 28/0 in 5 overs in their second innings. Yashasvi (15*) and Rohit Sharma (13*) remained unbeaten, extending India’s lead to 171 runs. With a commanding position in the match, India looks poised to capitalize further on the third day of the Test.
