On Day 2 of the ongoing second Test in Visakhapatnam between India and England, a verbal altercation unfolded between two cricket superstars, Ravichandran Ashwin and James Anderson.
Verbal exchange between James Anderson and Ravichandran Ashwin
The incident transpired after the fourth ball of the 96th over in the Indian innings. As Anderson commenced his run-up, Ashwin, in the process of adjusting his sleeves, unintentionally gestured with his hand at the non-striking end. This caught Anderson’s attention, causing him to halt abruptly and fixate his gaze on Ashwin. Notably, Anderson was also displeased with Ashwin’s proximity to the umpire while being the non-striker.
Harsha Bhogle’s candid insight
His dissatisfaction prompted a complaint to the umpire, escalating the situation into a heated exchange between the two players. Cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle, commenting during that intense moment, couldn’t resist sharing an intriguing insight on this battle. He remarked, ‘Let me tell you one thing – If Anderson doesn’t like it, Ashwin will do it.’
Anderson has the last laugh
However, the confrontation concluded in favour of Anderson as he dismissed Ashwin on the third ball of the 100th over. Anderson delivered a splendid wobble seam, causing Ashwin to leave the ball instead of playing a shot. The ball squared Ashwin up, resulting in a faint outside edge onto the thigh pad, eventually caught by Ben Foakes. Anderson, after the dismissal, conveyed some words to Ashwin as a form of send-off. Following the dismissal, Ashwin promptly requested a review. Nevertheless, the technology displayed that the ball had indeed taken a faint edge off Ashwin’s bat, leading to his departure.

Previous intense encounter between Ashwin and Anderson
This wasn’t the first instance of a heated exchange between the two. A similar confrontation took place during England’s tour of India in 2016 in the fourth Test in Mumbai. During that instance, Ashwin appeared to take exception to Anderson’s comments about Virat Kohli‘s dominance only in home conditions. The situation escalated briefly before Kohli and the umpire intervened to restore order.

Ashwin Anna surely knows how toꦰ rattle opposition with his 100 tricks. Today we saw new one from him. Standing close to stumps at non striker end🅠 and moving his arm when bowler is bowling 😂😂😂
It has surely rattled Anderson 😂

Ashwin has twitch where he throws out his right hand to adjust the sleeve. He does it pretty much every ball while he's bowling. Did that at the bowler's end again there…
