The Indian cricket team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, continued its impressive run in the ODI World Cup 2023 by securing an emphatic victory against Sri Lanka𓃲 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With this triumph, Team India maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament and became the first squad to advance to the semi-finals.

Dominating batting display sets the tone

In the high-stakes encounter, India posted a formidable total of 357/8, largely thanks to half-centuries from Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88), and Shreyas Iyer (82). Their dominating batting performance laid a solid foundation for the team’s success.

Bowlers shine as Sri Lanka stumbles

Following the stellar batting display, India’s bowlers stepped up to the plate, delivering a top-notch performance to dismantle Sri Lanka’s batting lineup. Sri Lanka was bundled out for a paltry 55 runs, with the Indian bowlers showcasing their prowess.

Rohit Sharma reveals who take DRS decisions

After the game, captain Rohit acknowledged the importance of DRS calls in their win and revealed that the responsibility for taking DRS calls li𓆉es with 🌺the wicketkeeper and the bowlers. Rohit expressed his trust in these individuals and acknowledged that sometimes DRS decisions could go either way.

“I have left it to the bowler and the keeper (whether or not to take a review) to make that decision for me, and I gotta find the individuals I can trust, and I know it can go the other way as well. We got one right and one wrong today,” said Rohit during the post-match presentation.

Decisive DRS calls against Sri Lanka

Apart from the batting and bowling heroics, the use of the DRS played a crucial role in India’s victory. KL Rahul, the wicketkeeper-batsman, made two decisive DRS calls that turned the game in India’s favor. In the first instance, Rahul correctly ruled against taking a DRS for an LBW call. Later in the match, he successfully convinced Rohit Sharma to take a DRS when he believed that Dushmantha Chameera had edged the ball that he had caught. Both calls turned out to be accurate.

Team India’s semi-final qualification

Rohit also shared his delight in officially qualifying for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023. He highlighted the team’s goal to secure a spot in the semi-finals and eventually reach the final. Rohit praised the clinical approach and collective effort of the team, emphasizing the contributions of numerous individuals in their journey.

“I am very happy that we have officially qualified now (for the semis). When we started off in Chennai, this was our goal – to qualify first for the semis and obviously in the final. The way we approached these seven games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort, and a lot of individuals have put their hand up,” added Rohit.
