In a recent high-stakes encounter between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews etched his name in an unprecede🧸nted record as the first-ever batter to be timed out in international cricket.
The controversial dismissal of Angelo Mathews
The contentious incident unfolded at the Arun Jaitley Stadiu𒀰m in Delhi on Monday, November 6.
Following the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama by Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, an unexpected turn oꦬf events occurred when Mathews faced an issue with the strap on his helmet, necessitating a swift replacement. Amidst the commotion, Bangladesh skipper Shakib appealed for a time out dismissal of Mathews; the umpires soon intervened and instructed Mathews to leave the field, much to his visible frustration. The veteran cricketer responded by flinging his helmet 🎉in disbelief before engaging in a heated exchange with opposing captain.

Absolu🎐tely pathetic what happened in Delhi today!

Well, that wasn’t cool ⏰
— Dale Steyn (@DaleSteyn62)
Angelo made his crease then his helmet strap broke. How is that timed out? I'm all for timed out if he doesn't make his crease but this is ridic. No different then a batsman getting to the crease then taking 3 minutes to face up 🤦🏽♂️
— Usman Khawaja (@Uz_Khawaja)
Just when you have seen everything in cricket this keeps giving. The first timed out International batter, is Angelo Matthews. Huge discussions occurred, it felt like a court of law with him pleading his casꩲe.

Spirit of the game should remain high always. 🌃

Timed OUT for helmet issues .. that’s🍌 a new one .𝓰.

If I was I would not have appealed as a Captain and I would have broken♓ more than just a helmet iꦗf I was

Yes rules are rules, butꦫ there is a term called "Spirit of 𒈔Cricket" which applies on such situations. Bangladesh would have done a better thing had it given Angelo Matthews a margin.
One should trust in their abilitieꦯs to win ma🐠tches. |

Spirit of cricket long gone!! Eye opener for all batters from today onwards incase if it was not. Well within the rules to appeal. If Anjelo had informed Umpires & Shakib about wanting to chan🦂ge the helmet situation would have been different.
