In the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan’s young pace sensation, Shaheen Afridi, has been grappling with a dip in his form. Recognizing his struggles, Pakistan’s legendary former pacer, Wasim Akram, has extended a helping ꦰhand as Shaheen prepares♔ to face Australia.
Shaheen Afridi’s poor outing with the ball
Afridi, who was expected to be one of Pakistan’s leading bowlers in the tournament, has managed to secure just four wickets in three matches, which falls short of the team’s and fans’ expectations. Furthermore, the 23-year-old challenge is exacerbated by the absence of Naseem Shah, who was sidelined from the CWC 2023 due to a shoulder injury. It wasn’t too long ago that Afridi was a formidable presence with the new ball, causing substantial damage in the Powerplay and setting back opposing teams. However, in this global showpiece event, he has appeared a far cry from that potent version of himself.

Wasim Akram offers guidance to struggling Shaheen
Akram, an iconic figure in Pakistan cricket, emphasizes that Shaheen doesn’t need to resort to extraordinary measures to regain his form. Instead, he offers valuable advice, emphasizing the importance of patience and encouraging Shaheen to trust the process that has brought him success in the past.
“He has been bowling well. During the World Cup, what special he can do? Obviously, his confidence is low. But he’s a wicket-taking bowler, if you are not getting wickets, just be normal. Don’t do anything out of ordinary, follow your routine and keep practicing. Just one or two good spells is all he need to be back in form,” Akram was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
Pakistan’s upcoming clash against Australia
Afridi’s struggles extend beyond his efficiency, as his pace has also taken a noticeable hit. Pakistan’s management is undoubtedly concerned about these developments. After securing two initial victories, Pakistan experienced a resounding defeat in their third game against their arch-rivals, India. Their next challenge lies in facing the five-time champions, Australia on Friday 🥃and the team will be hoping for the miracle from the pace magician Afridi.
