In the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, South Africa’s fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was notably absent from the playing eleven in the team’s ongoing encounter against Bangladesh. Speculations arose concerning the reasons behind Ngidi’s absence from the crucial match.
No Lungi Ngidi and Temba Bavuma in South Africa’s playing XI
According to South Africa’s stand-in captain Aiden Markram, their two prime players, Lungi Ngidi and Temba Bavuma, have been rested for the game as a precautionary 𝔉measure for the remaining game.
Ngidi suffered a minor niggle in his knee during the team’s practice session ahead of the match, while Bavuma hasn’t fully covered from his illness. The Proteas skipper missed the game against England as well.
However, the team management remains optimistic about Ngidi and Bavuma’s quick recovery and anticipates their return to the playing in the subsequent matches.

“We will bat first. Trying to approach in a similar way to the English game. It’s really hot [in Mumbai]. It took a toll on everyone, it’s advantage fielding in the evening,” said Makram at the toss.
“Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad [Williams] comes in,” he added.
