During the ongoing Match 18 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Pakistan at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, David Warner marked a significant milestone in his career. He celebrated his 21st ODI century in a manner that has become truly iconic – by performing the renowned ‘Pushpa’ celebration.

The left-handed batter 𓃲achieved his fifth ODI World Cup ton, underlining his exceptional excellence on one of the grandest cricketing stages.

Aussies’ oppressive batting display

At the outset of the match, Pakistan squandered a review in the very first ball of the game. Just a couple of overs later, there was a crucial missed opportunity when Usama Mir dropped a stra🐻𒐪ightforward catch of Warner at mid-on.

Subsequently, Warner and Mitchell Marsh dismantled the Pakistani bowling attack, forming a formidable opening partnership that yielded 259 runs. They both notched up scintillating centuries, with Marsh blazing his way to 121 runs from 108 balls, comprising ten fours and nine sixes. At the same time, Warner’s performance was nothing short of astonishing, as he amassed 163 runs from 124 balls, featuring 14 fours and nine towering sixes.

The turning point came when Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Marsh in the 34th over, initiating a downward spiral for the Australian side. To compound their woes, Glenn Maxwell suffered the ignominy of a golden duck, and Shaheen then played a pivotal role in putting Pakistan back in the game. Wickets tumbled one after another, and Pakistan’s bowlers performed remarkably well in the end to restrict the Men in Yellow, who finished their innings at 367/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

David Warner’s elegant celebration

In the 31st over, on the fourth delivery, Warner displayed remarkable batting prowess as he confidently advanced out of his crease and skilfully directed a flighted delivery from Mohammad Nawaz towards long on, securing a single run. The significant moment marked his first three-figﷺure score in the current edition of the World Cup.

This achievement catapulted the 36-year-old Australian batter into an exclusive and illustrious group of players. He now shares this distinction with Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting, who have amassed over f💃our centuries in 50-over World Cup tournaments.

During his century celebration, the New South Wales cricketer hit the iconic move performed by Indian film star Allu Arjun in the blockbuster movie ‘Pushpa’.
