The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the Indian team’s squad for the much-anticipated ODI World Cup 2023. The team was unveiled in the presence of Men in Blue skipper Rohit Sharma and chairman of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar.
Although the squad features many prominent names, it did not sit well with a significant portion of the cricketing community due to the absence of a few notable names in the form of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma. The omission of Samson and Tilak has raised many eyebrows and fueled intense discussions amo🌳ng fans and experts alike.
Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma left out from the squad
It is worth mentioning that Samson has consistently impressed in the ODIs and boasts an impressive batting average of 55.7 in the 50-over format. However, despite the decent numbers under his belt, Samson was yet again overlooked by the Indian selectors, a꧟nd his snub came as a shock to many fans who believed he deserved a chance in the national side.
Likewise, Tilak was another name conspicuously missing from the World Cup squad. While Varma is yet to make his 50-over debut, his recent performances in the shortest format of the game showcased his immense potential. His inclusion in the Asia Cup 2023 squad recently had only fueled fans’ expectations, leading them to believe he might get a chance to represent India on the world stage. But his omission from the World Cup squad left fans disappointed and questioning the selection criteria.

Suryakumar Yadav gets a nod ahead of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma
Adding to the frustration of fans was the inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled to make an impact in the ODI format. With a rather unimpressive ODI batting average of 24.3, many fans felt that his inclusion over the likes of Samson and Tilak was unjustif🌄ied. This decision raised questions about the selection process and the criteria used to pick the squad for the World Cup.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Garbage squad. Where is Tilak varma? A player who can bowl and bat at any position. We already seen his talent what's the point in giving him a chance in the next odi world cup after bottling this golden chance?

IMHO inclusion of KL Rahul and Axar Patel and exclusion of Tilak Varma and leg spinner has spoiled India chances of lifti🌺ng ODI WC 2023👐🙏
But I will be hoping India lifts ODI 💮WC as India gonna host this tournament 🙏🙏

In 2000 we heard of Matc🍎h fixings now selection fixings came to picture , Selector Ajit Agarkar amd his team🌊 selected Non-performer KL Rahul over performers like Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson. So unfair.

Rohit Sharma selected Surya Kumar Yadav in Bharat's World Cup squad but not Sanju Samson because Sanju is not from Mumbai 💔

You'll never find someone as unlucky as Sanju in ICT history💔

It's unfortunate that didn't get a proper run in the ODIs. It's about getting the right oppurtunities at the right time. If we go by stats he deserved to get picked in the XV ahead of SKY (in this format).
Hopefully he will get more chances in O🐲DIs in th𝔉e future 🧧— ICC Match Referee (Unofficial) (@ICC🤪Match🌠Referee)
if you dont wꦦant to select them why did you ask th🐓em to play matches
If you wa𒀰nt to ဣselect why didnt you give chance to play in
