In a major setback to the Bangladesh cricket team, fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has been forced to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2023 squad due to a lingering injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) 🦋made the announcement for the same on Tuesday (August 22).
Ebadot’s absence comes as a blow to the squad, as the talented pacer was initially named in the 17-member roster unveiled by the BCB just ten days ago. The team’s preparations for the Asia Cup were also in full swing, with seasoned all-rounder Shakib al Hasan appointed a🤡s the captain of the side by the management.
What led to Ebadot Hossain’s withdrawal from the initial team?
It was the unfortunate injury sustained by Ebadot during an ODI series against Afghanistan last month that led to his withdrawal from the team. Despite medical evaluations and assessments, it has been determined that Ebadot requires more rest to ensure a complete recov🐼ery.
The decision by the BCB to exclude Ebadot from the Asia Cup squad was taken as mindful of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 scheduled for October in India, as they don’t want to risk one of their key players before the prestigious world event.
“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time, and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup,” BCB Chief Sports Physician Dr Debashis Chowdhuܫrဣy was quoted saying by ICC.
“Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” he added.
