The Hundred: Ellyse Perry and Sophie Ecclestone confirmed as captains for upcoming season

The captains for The Hundred 2023 have been officially announced, with five out of the eight participating teams unveiling their skipper on Monday. Ellyse Perry, the Australian cricket sensation, has been named the captain of the Birmingham Phoenix, while England’s Sophie Ecclestone will take charge of the Manchester Originals.

“I’m buzzing to be captaining Manchester Originals this year. The Hundred is such a great competition to take part in, and I can’t wait to lead the girls out at Emirates Old Trafford. I like what we’ve done in the draft, we’ve got the makings of a world-class side, and hopefully, our fans will come out in their numbers as ever to cheer us on,” Ecclestone said in an ECB press release.

Tammy Beaumont is set to lead the Fire women’s side, adding to the list of strong female leaders in the tournament.

Dane van Niekerk and Anya Shrubsole will continue their captaincy roles at Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave respectively, bringing their experience and leadership skills to guide their teams. Meanwhile, London Spirit had already announced that England star Heather Knight will be captaining their side, further emphasizing the presence of𝔍 accomplished cricketers in leadership positions.

The upcoming third edition of The Hundred is scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 27. Notably, this edition will have a standalone window, avoiding any clash with England women’s fixtures for the first time. This dedicated time frame will allow players to fully focus on The Hundred without any scheduling conflicts, enhancing the quality and excitement of the tournament.
