Delhi Capitals (DC) squared off against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 16th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday (April 11). DC suffere🤡d their fourth consecutive loss of the tournament as they were handed a six-wicket defeat from the Mumbai-based team in the encounter.
Winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, MI bundled out Delhi in 19.4 overs. Axar Patel was the top scorer for DC as he contributed quickfire 54 runs off just 25 balls and powered his team to a competitive total of 172. David Warner also played determined innings of 51 runs off 47 balls for the Delhi-based team. Meanwhile, Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff picked three wickets each for Mumbai.
In reply, MI got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan webbing a 71-run partnership for the first wicket. Rohit went on to score brilliant 65 runs off 45 balls, including six fours and four sixes in the run chase. However, despite the good start from MI’s top order, DC managed to get the game into the last over of the innings. With four runs to defend in the last over, the ball was handed over to DC’s premier pacer Anrich Nortje who bowled some pinpoint yorkers and kept the ho💮pes alive for DC till the final delivery.
In the end, Mumbai needed two runs off one ball, and Nortje yet again bowled a great delivery. But Tim David dug the ball out to hit it towards the deep mid-off and charged up for a double. In the meantime, Warner was quick enough to collect the white leather but went for a flat throw way above the stumps. Although Abishek Porel leapt and gathered the inaccu✤rate thr🀅ow from the DC skipper brilliantly, Tim had successfully completed the two runs by then, and MI emerged victorious in the clash.
The disappointment on the face of Delhi’s head coach, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, was clearly visible after Warner’s match-costing throw.

Speaking about his throw in the post-match presentation, Warner said: “Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it at stump-height.”
Rohit was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional knock. Meanwhile, other notable contribution for MI in the run chase came from Tilak Varma, who scored 41 runs off 29 balls.
